Case Study 6
How a Modest Ladies Wear Company Became a Strategic Partner
A medium-sized UK company made ladies wear for a high-street multiple. A tough role. Lots of competition, and tight prices. Barely profitable and with a huge overdraft, which their bankers refused to extend.
Their auditors had heard how my TYM program had transformed other companies, and the company asked if I could help.
Analysis and Findings
After a brief survey, I showed how, by changing the way they worked:
- They could make products faster. In just 3 days rather than the present 33 days,
- They could increase productivity by 100% in their present factories, and
- They could make products 100% right first time.
Implementing these would slash costs, free up cash, and enhance customer service.
Specifically, they would generate higher profits and reduce their overdraft.
TYM Program Implementation
The company formed a small team who worked with me on a ten-week TYM program.
We identified the necessary steps, assigned responsibilities, and developed an implementation plan highlighting financial and business benefits.
The board approved our plan. Over the next six months, I guided the team to realise these benefits.
Transformative Results
The company now cut the garment parts on Day 1, assembled them on Day 2, and despatched the finished garments on Day 3.
The higher productivity allowed them to close one of their three factories to reduce overheads.
Within a year they had halved their overdraft.
Compelling Conclusion
When the high-street multiple realised the company now made garments in 3 days, they appointed it their ‘quick turnaround’ strategic partner.
This extra business was less price sensitive and generated greater profits.
