How My UK Client Became ‘The Best in Europe’

The CEO of a UK store-fitting company, ranked second in the market, wanted to rank first. He’d heard how my TYM approach had transformed a local clothing company, and asked my opinion. 

Analysis and Findings

After a brief survey, I showed how, by changing the way they worked in their manufacturing:

• They could make products faster. In 1 week rather than 9 weeks,
• They could increase productivity by 100% in their present factories, 
• They could make their products 100% right first time.

Implementing these would slash costs, free up cash, and enhance customer service. 

They could also apply the same TYM principles to 19 support processes, including estimating, contract management, purchasing, planning & scheduling, installation, management accounting, invoicing and credit control, to further enhance customer service

Then they could hook all the best customers in the market by defining standards of quality performance for 11 aspects of the business to provide an unbeatable customer service.

TYM Program Implementation

The company formed a small team to work with me on a ten-week TYM program. 

We identified necessary steps, assigned responsibilities, and developed an implementation plan highlighting financial and business benefits. 

The board approved our plan, and over the next twelve months, I guided the team to realise all the above benefits.

Transformative Results

During the implementation, I did face-to-face interviews with directors and senior managers of their four key customers. You can see the questions and answers in the Chapter 13 slides on my website. 

One commented, ‘They now have such good quality and service, they can take over as the leading player in Europe.’ 

Compelling Conclusion

A year later, the CEO sent me a testimonial. ‘I thought Jim’s blue-sky vision was pie in the blue sky. Now we’re doing it.’
