How a Modest PCB Company Became Market Leader
A company that made base printed circuit boards, (i.e. before they mount the chips on them), ranking third in the UK market, had ambitions to expand. Traditional consultants suggested they build a new plant to boost production. At a multi-million-pound cost. When the CEO heard about my TYM approach, he asked my opinion.
Analysis and Findings
After a brief survey, I showed how, by changing the way they worked:
- They could make products faster. In just 5 days rather than the present 6 weeks,
- They could increase productivity by 75% in their present factory, and
- They could make products 100% right first time.
Implementing these would slash costs, free up cash, and enhance customer service. Specifically, they would provide the required extra capacity.

The company formed a small team who worked with me on a ten-week TYM program.

Compelling Conclusion
Six months later, the Strategy Director of the previous market leader contacted me. Impressed by my client’s rapid growth and profitability, which he’d heard was down to me, he inquired about me replicating that success with them. However, I guarantee I won’t knowingly work with any direct competitor of my clients within a year of completing a project.
On that first day beyond that, he called again. And I presented my TYM approach to his board. But the Chairman scoffed they could achieve such large improvements in his plant and halted discussion.
